Flying Machines

This week we read Rosie Revere, Engineer.  At the end of the book, Rosie invents a flying machine for her Great-Great-Aunt Rose, who built airplanes but never had flown herself.  So we built flying machines, too! Our flying machines were made out of coffee filters (parachute-like) and balloons (boyant).  We tested them over a fan, and the kids absolutely loved this part!  There were shrieks and squeals because the fan really made our inventions stay airborne for quite a while and go up pretty high!  Some of our creations got destroyed due to hard landings, but we did repair-work where we could.  We talked about how Rosie didn't give up and kept trying, even if things didn't initially go her way.  Take a look at this week's photos below!
