JH PTA Volunteer Opportunities
Calling All Volunteers!
Parents are welcome to volunteer at Jefferson-Houston to support our teachers, administrators, students, and/or parent liaison. ACPS uses a screening system to screen all visitors and volunteers including PTA members, and community members to help ensure student’s safety.

Upcoming JH PTA volunteer opportunities:
After-School Clubs - Schedules, recruits vendors, and helps organize student participants.
Reflections Art Contest – Help publicize the competition, gather and submit entries, and organize the judges at the school level. Submissions are gathered and judged in October and into early November.
Teacher Appreciation - Coordinates events throughout the school year to thank teachers/staff for their dedication.
Music Boosters - help fundraise for the JH Band and Orchestra programs!
Events
Bake Sale (November)– On election day, the JH PTA sets up a baked goods shop next to the Durant center, our local polling location, to raise money. Volunteers will set up a table, organize volunteers and donations of baked goods and coffee.
Bingo Night –Committee plans, help to promote, reach out to local business for prizes, and organize a light dinner.
Pancake Breakfast (December)– Annual event held the first Saturday in December for families and community members to get together and relax. Organizers will plan the breakfast, prize raffle, holiday decorations, fun photo booth, holiday crafts for children, band/orchestra/choir performance and PTA tables.
Restaurant Nights (throughout year) – Plan a school night at a local restaurant.
Field Day (June) - Help organize field day events, recruit volunteers and donations, and coordinate rental of bouncy house.
Rising Kindergarten Event (Spring) – Events for incoming JH families for engagement. Events include meetups and other opportunities for rising and current families to meet, connect, and strengthen the JH community.
Fundraising
Passive Fundraising – Maintain and promote the following programs: Harris Teeter Together in Education, Box Tops For Education, Givebacks
Spring2ACTion – A city wide on-line donation event held in April. Supporters of JH login and give to support our school. Committee will promote through all available channels.
Business Sponsorships - Contact 3-5 businesses to sponsor the JH PTA.
