What is the school uniform policy this year? Are uniforms required or encouraged?

Uniforms are not required, but welcome if a family decides that is the best choice for them.

How can families make sure they are receiving all of the communications from the school (newsletters, texts, emails, etc)?

We are excited to communicate with families and share information. You may subscribe to the ACPS Express newsletter and the Jaguar Junction using this link https://www.acps.k12.va.us/lists.

 

Be sure all information is correct on the contact form in First Day Packets. If not, you may edit the form. All forms should be returned within the first two weeks of school. This information will be used to send messages via text and email.

Where can parents find information about the orientation/welcome events on 8/20 and 8/23?

All ACPS schools will have a “Step-Up” event on August 20th. This information was shared in the ACPS Express. An invite for the Back-to-School Luau will be shared in the Jaguar Junction and Blackboard Connect. Be sure you have subscribed to the ACPS Express and Jaguar Junction using this link https://www.acps.k12.va.us/lists.

Where are the school supply lists? When should children bring in school supplies?

The school supply lists were shared with parents via the Jaguar Junction at the beginning of the month. The list is also available on the Jefferson-Houston website under “Our School” and it’s the third item. Students should bring supplies to class during the first week of school if possible.

How will drop-off work, especially for new students who are unfamiliar with the building?  How will kids find their classes? How will pick-up work?

Arrival

 

Staff will be on duty upon arrival and dismissal. All students will have a temperature screening upon arrival.

 

Bus Riders: Once buses arrive, students will exit the bus and prepare

 to enter the building. There will be assigned staff to support students 

with exiting the bus and entering the building. 

 

Car Riders/Kiss & Ride: Parents of car riders will pull up to the Kiss & Ride area and follow the traffic pattern. We ask that you pull your car forward as far as possible in the line and do not pass other cars. We also ask that you follow the directions of the adults on duty.  Once students exit their vehicle, students will report to door 1 (the main entrance facing the playgrounds and field). Please be patient and plan ahead. This is for the safety of all.

 

Walkers:  We will welcome all walkers at door 1 (the main entrance facing the playgrounds and field). 

 

Dismissal

 

Staff will be on duty upon arrival and dismissal. We will have a staggered dismissal for walkers, car riders/Kiss & Ride, and bus riders. 

 

Bus Riders: Elementary bus riders will exit door 7 and Middle School will exit door 8 and board buses. 

 

Car Riders/Kiss & Ride: Parents of car riders will pull up to the Kiss & Ride area and follow the traffic pattern .  We ask that you pull your car forward as far as possible in the line, do not pass other cars, and do not get out of your car . If you need or wish to speak to your child’s/children’s teacher (s), then please park. Kindergarten through Fourth grade students will receive a grade level name card, please place this in the window on the passenger side to assist with pick up. We also ask that you follow the directions of the adults on duty. Please be patient and plan ahead. This is for the safety of all. 


Walkers: Kindergarten through third grade walkers who are picked up by parents will meet in the gym at door 14. Fourth and Fifth Grade walkers will exit door 1. Middle School students will exit door 3.
